History - Museums & Historical Sites

Explorers
looking for the Northwest Passage. Whalers chasing the mighty
Bowhead into the icy northern waters. Fur traders conducting
business with Inuit hunters and trappers. Europeans have left
their own historic stamp on the Arctic.
In many
communities, you can step back in time at local museum collections
or visit historical sites made memorable by explorers, whalers
and traders. In the collections, you will also see traditional
tools, clothes, dogsleds and boats built generations ago.
Most communities
in Nunavut have been Hudson Bay Company posts at one time
or another. Many still have the original posts preserved in
time, and some are rich in artifacts collected by this centuries-old
company.
