With
endless daylight from May to late August, there is much to
be photographed in Canada's North! The low light angles of
the Arctic air create a paradise for landscape photographers.
Most communities offer something extraordinary and unique
in their landscape.
Photographers
can occasionally approach wildlife, such as seals, on the
ice. Caribou may cross the ice as they migrate south from
Bylot Island in May and early June. Seals, seabirds, Polar
Bears and Narwhals (even walrus, Bowhead, Belugas or Killer
Whales) may appear at the floe edge from mid-May through June.
Once the ice breaks up, marine mammals can be spotted in many
places. Consider the company of an experienced guide- they
know all the best spots.
Be prepared
for huge variations in light and temperature. After the cold
dark of winter, the North emerges into the perpetual 24 hour
daylight of spring and summer, with a quality of light unsurpassed
on Earth. Each season has its special challenges for the photographer,
but whichever season you choose bring a lot of film with you.
