Pangnirtung, Nunavut is located on the southeastern shore of Pangnirtung Fjord on the south shore of Baffin Island's Cumberland Sound. Pangnirtung is 297 km northeast of Iqaluit. The name derives from an Inuit word said to mean "place of the bull caribou."
Pangnirtung is located on a narrow coastal plain against a spectacular backdrop of high mountains and a winding river valley. Legend says a hunter named Atagooyuk gave the place its name well over 100 years ago.
